Naval Architect: German Frers

Hull & Deck

The Hull is of single skin construction using glass/aramid hybrid fibre reinforced vinylester laminate. A high proportion of the fibres are unidirectional. Main Deck is of prepreg carbon fibre sandwich construction with honeycomb core and glued to hull. High density core under deck fittings. Coachroof and cockpits of glass fibre reinforced vinylester with foam core.
Structural bulkheads are of cored prepreg carbon fibre sandwich construction with honeycomb core laminated to hull and deck. Stiffeners are unidirectional carbon lay-ups over foam cores. Engine beds are of GRP with steel inserts.
Ballast keel bulb is a lead casting alloyed with antimony attached to a steel fin. Keel bolts are of high-tensile stainless steel. Rudder is foam filled GRP with tubular carbon fibre stock, supported by two self-aligning roller bearings. Weed deflector. Dual steering gear. Two 41" Destroyer type wheels with elkhide cover. Two pedestals with roller bearings and friction brake.
Conposite main shroud champlates bonded to hull. Backstay composite chain plate bonded to hull structure.
Stainless steel pulpit, pushpit and life line stanchions (confornung to ORC standards). Four recessed 16" aluminium mooring cleats. 63 kg CQR anchor with 10 m high tensile chain and 100 m plaited nylon rode. Four 1 5 m (20 mm dia.) mooring lines and two 25 m (20 mm dia.). Eight air fenders. Space for two 8 man liferafts. Deck stowage locker.
Hydraulically operated transom door/bathing platform to lazarette locker with stowage for a partly folded inflatable and outboard plus separate locker for aluminium LPG tanks. 9 mm laid teak on side and bridge decks, cockpit soles and seats, glued and vacuum bagged without screws.
Custom flush hinged sail hatch, openable tinted deck hatches and portholes. Main companionway lockable, sliding hatch of tinted acrylic.
Lockable, hinged hatch to fo'c'sle. Hinged Custom hatches in Owner's cabin, Owner's head and shower, and, main cabin. Openable Goiot portholes from aft cabins to cockpit. Lofrans Ercole "A" electric anchor windlass (single gypsy and rope drum), hand control with 3.5 m cable.

Mast, Rig and Sail Handling

Four spreader masthead rig, with swept spreaders supported by discontinuous Navtec rod rigging. Carbon fibre mast of oval section with external track for full-batten mainsail. Mast stepped through deck onto composite mast step. Tie rods from mast collar to step. Boom of carbon fibre, oval tapered section with internal outhaul and mainsheet arrangements. Arranged for slab reefing with two reefing lines.
Flying inner forestay of aramid. Navtec backstay tensioner with fail safe tumbuckle. Hydraulic cylinder inside boom for mainsail outhaul. Jib halyard cylinder on side of mast and inner forestay cylinder below deck. Hydraulic boom vang with high-pressure return. Four function, single gauge Navtec System 50 central control panel in aft cockpit. Hydraulic mast jack.
Main sheet hydraulic adjustment inside booni. Reckmann hydraulic headsail furler. Running rigging with Spectra sheets and halyards. Roller bearing lead blocks for halyards and slab reefing at mast partners. Aluminium jib sheet tracks with recirculating ball bearing cars. Foot blocks for jib sheets. Fittings for trysail sheets. All winches are Lewmar Ocean Series Wavespring, including two 2 speed, electric powered 88 ST primaries, two 3 speed 88 BPB secondaries and two 2 speed 66 CST Wavegrip utilities (one powered).

Engine and Propulsion

Yanmar 4LH-STE four cylinder marine diesel with Hurth reverse reduction gear 3:1. Thermostat- controlled fresh water cooling with heat exchanger. Strainer on sea water intake, discharge through exhaust system. Wet system exhaust with fibreglass silencer and gas/water separators.
Fuel capacity 2000 1(528 US galls) in stainless tanks with two independent filler lines. Shut-off valves and level gauges. Dual Separ fuel filter/water separator with water alarm on engine feed line. Single filter/water separator for generator. Engine space internally sound and fire insulated meeting SOLAS B-i 5. Engine control panel in cockpit. Propeller area sound insulated. Shaft of high-tensile, corrosion resistant steel with flexible shaft coupling. Three-bladed folding propeller.

Electrical and Plumbing

24V DC insulated return system for general service and battery charging. Main battery set 24V, 6OOAh 5 hour rating/720Ah 20 hour rating and charged by engine driven 175A alternator or by 100A charger. Engine and diesel generator starting batteries set 135 Ah 24V and 135 Ah 1 2V respectively and charged by separate main engine & generator driven alternators. All batteries located in vented GRP boxes. Main switchboard features switches of trip-free circuit type, voltmeter and ammeter. 12kVA Westerbeke 230V AC diesel generator. 230V AC 50A shore power (11 SV AC SOA via 6kvA transformer).
Fresh water capacity 1000 l(264 US galls) in integral tanks with level gauges. Pressurised system for hot and cold water with 80 l(21 US galls) hot water tank (heated by engine cooling water or AC powered element). AC driven water maker 4500 l(1 200 US galls)/day. Single lever mixing taps in heads, showers and galley. Three bilge pumps - one automatic electrical submersible 140 l(37 US galIs)/min and two manual Whale Titan 100 l(26 US galls)/min. Sump tank capacity 70 l(18 US galls)

Interior

Teak with hand rubbed satin finish is used for all visible woodwork. Cored floorboards with laid teak veneer. Topsides where visible lined with teak battens.
Main saloon has settee with dining table and chairs port side. Settee with coffee table starboard.
Galley has insulated and sheathed space for stove with extractor hood over. Stainless steel sinks. Garbage container, refrigerator, freezer and cooled vegetable locker. Corian counter tops. Crockery cupboard, utensils chest of drawers, teak bread board. Navigation area with chart stowage, drawers, navigator's seat and angled panel space for electronics.
Fo'c'sle has pipe berths over sail stowage. Crew toilet and hanging locker. Guest cabins have hanging lockers and drawers with Pullman type upper berths. Owner's stateroom has double berth with settee and hanging lockers. Separate shower compartment. Captain's cabins with fixed lower berth and Pullman upper and hanging locker. All heads equipped with porcelain washbasin, mirror, telephone type shower with GRP interior modules.

CE Approval for Category A Ocean.
